Brackenridge Park Clean-Up

May 01, 2009

On the Monday after Easter, about three dozen volunteers cleaned up the areas around the Joske Pavillion, contributing to an overall after- Easter clean-up effort in which about ten tons of trash was removed. Leilah Powell of Thorman Avenue was instrumental In this major project. The effort was sponsored by the Brackenridge Park Conservancy, the San Antonio River Authority and the City of San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department. The Brackenridge Park Conservancy is a new organization, supported by the San Antonio Conservation Society, dedicated to protecting and improving the park. Conservancy board members will soon meet with City staff to plan for Easter weekend 2010, in the hopes of providing dumpsters, recycling bins and extra receptacles and implementing other strategies to reduce the "trashing" of the park.
