Approved as part of the 2007 bond issue, the project will include widening Hildebrand (west of Broadway) to add a center turn lane and to add sidewalks on both sides of Hildebrand (also west of Broadway). The project will include acquisition of property from Incarnate Word University and AT&T. Coincidently, the engineering firm designing the project - Freese & Nichols - offices in the neighborhood at 4040 Broadway.
In addition, City Council is expected to authorize an additional $1.3M to bury overhead utility lines at this intersection for 150' - 350' in all directions, and both Koontz-McCombs and Incarnate Word have each agreed to contribute $100K in support of this effort.
As of April 23, AT&T had not agreed to commit funds in support of burying utility lines at this prominent intersection. Finally, dedicated right turn lanes are planned for Broadway northbound and Hildebrand westbound.
